Good Home Design Translates to Higher Sales Prices
Interior designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent sold their Greenwich Village apartment in 2016 for $9.8 million. The pair had constructed the home from the building’s penthouse and a neighboring one-bedroom unit purchased in total for $5M in 2013, which they combined and gut-renovated.

The apartment has a wraparound terrace and three wood-burning fireplaces and was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest in 2015.

They bought it back in an off-market deal in 2021 for $8.9 million and completely renovated it AGAIN.

In 2022, the reimagined home yet again made the cover of Architectural Digest.

In November of 2024, they sold it for the second time in a decade for $19M, in an off market deal. This case study (again) demonstrates how much the design and details really matter when selling a property — actual value increases but perceived value goes up quite significantly with elevated and in-the-moment aesthetic updates. From a $5M original purchase in 2013 – two design iterations with a sale and buyback in between them – to a $19M sale just over a decade later – that’s an incredibly impressive return, even by NYC standards!
